What is Diaclone/Diaclone Reboot?
Diaclone (ダイアクロン, Daiakuron) is a toyline from Takara Toys launched in 1980, each vehicle was piloted by one or more miniature figure(s) that featured Neodymium magnet-soled boots, allowing them to cling to certain surfaces.
The line was reserrected and rebooted in 2015 as a collectors line and boasts an incredible range of premium sets to pick from.
Wait.. isn’t this a lot like Transformers?
Yes and no. It’s more the other way around, really.
A selectionof Diaclone (along with a smattering of other transforming robot toys) were imported to America by Hasbro to rebrand as The Transformers some four years later in 1984.
Remember how some G1 figures had cockpits but no pilot? That’s because the figure originally had a Diaclone (or Waruda) pilot. Good examples of this are Optimus Prime (aka Battle Convoy in Diaclone) as well as the car robots (Jazz, Prowl, Sideswipe & Sunstreaker etc), the Dinobots and the Insecticons.
By 1986, however, Diaclone figures were no longer being repurposed as Trasformers, as Hasbro chose to create their own characters/molds independent of Takara’s offerings.
Why are you making this site?
Good question. After all the work we have put into it, we sometimes ask ourselves the same thing!!
It all comes down to a love of the Diaclone line and a desire to help our fellow fans read about it in English.
If we can somehow help the line grow in populairty with greater exposure outside of Japan, alongside helping out fellow Western Diaclone fans, we will consider our mission to have been succesful.
Where can I find out more about the lore?
There really aren’t too many English language Diaclone resources out there. It’s mostly the official TakaraTomy website Diaclone section that we know of (link in the footer).
That’s why we are here.
However, we’ve tried to list any useful additionally sources of info on our resources page.
Diaclone.info is super-useful. How can I help out?
We’re so delighted to hear that this has been useful!
Soon we will be adding more features, such as the facility to add your own pictures, to show off your custom builds, to submit fanfic or produce some art. So please get involved in any way you can. Help us to build a great community.
Or, and this is really important, if you can help with translations from Japanese, replacement photography (we mostly borrow from TakaraTomy at the moment) or anything else you think we would find useful, please reach out to us using our contact form.
I’d love to get into Diaclone but it seems kinda expensive. Why?
There are two factors at play here:
First of all, it is a premium adult collection line with a high level of build quality and parts counts.
Secondly, and more impactfully, scarcity. Diaclone are made in limited numbers, and as they sell out, the price rises sharply. That’s why the best advice that we can possibly give you is to get the sets as soon as you can. The longer you wait, the more expensive the set will be, and they will only ever appreciate in value.
It’s been a long time since the last updates. Have you guys given up?
We are still here! We’ve had a bit of a lull, and life has gotten in the way for both of us, but we have such great plans for this place, starting with bringing the content up to date over the next few months.
We’ll also be revamping the site completely, not just the content but also the design and extra community-based features.
Please bear with us!
