ACT-0: Super Energy Freezon

It is the year 199X. Humankind’s discovery of the super energy substance Freezon has brought about great technological and scientific progress. The Earth is organised into five huge federal “Macro Zones”, each managed by a powerful computer that manages progress and fosters harmony. Humankind finally knows peace and prosperity: freed of the ravages and vagaries of famine, disease and war, humans look to the future with a sense of hope thus far unmatched in the annals of history.

Across the vastness of space, deep within a great Dark Nebula, lies the planet Waruda whose inhabitants, a highly developed scientific society, had long since discovered the power of Freezon. However, where Humankind used the energy source wisely, fostering peace, plenty and harmony on their world, the Waruda exploited it wantonly to fuel their materialistic consumerist society, causing massive ecological and environmental damage to their planet. The Waruda’s recklessness unleashed death and decay on that most precious asset: their homeworld.

In a desperate effort to stave off the impending planetary disaster, the Waruda built a Freezon-intensive environmental maintenance system but then resumed their orgy of consumption. They heedlessly drained their planet until it was completely depleted, before turning their attention to their star, drawing ever more resources until, in turn, it too was exhausted…

With their own star system almost completely drained, estimated to have less than ten years left, the Waruda were faced with the choice of changing their ways, extinction… or conquest.

Under the direction of the Waruda Emperor, they chose the latter, sending out swarms of probes, and setting their sights on the reserves of Freezon found on alien worlds.

With the very last of their resources they mustered huge armies of war machines and turned on nearby Feezon-rich star systems, becoming locked into a destructive cycle: the more they conquered, the more Freezon they required.

The Waruda Emperor had personally selected the vicious General Ingam from among his top military commanders to lead the offensive, and Ingam oversaw the construction of a huge fleet, with a vast fortress at its center.

Countless star systems fell to the avarice of the Waruda, each one was left drained and dead..

Inevitably, the fearsome swarms of the Waruda Legions espied a small blue planet in the Sol system, which held the promise of extraordinary amounts of Freezon…

On Earth, faint signals from space were detected by Metrazone Japan City’s main computer. The fragments received were frightening: a dire warning about an impending doom. Humankind’s first contact with an alien civilization, an event that should have been a cause for celebration and joy, consisted of the final words of a dying culture, ravaged and consumed by an oncoming storm.

“Danger! “… “Our sun”… “Drained all the energy and will perish”… “Waruda Army”… “Heading to Earth”…

The Waruda were coming.

Earth was not complacent. Humankind took the missives as call-to-action. The Macrozone Federation Committee, in concert with the Zone computers, began development of machines and weapons to defend against the approaching horror. A global defense initiative was agreed, leading to the birth of the Earth Defense Force: the Diaclone.

All too soon Waruda swarms boiled out of space to begin their assault of Sol. Using sophisticated time-hole technology they subjected Humankind to a series of terrifying onslaughts; their initial objective: to conquer the Moon – the first step in destroying Earth. In response, the Diaclone Corps deployed interceptor and attack units equipped with the rapidly-developed technologies and weaponry they hoped would ensure their survival.

“Drain the Earth!”, “The Freezon is ours!”

The war for Freezon and the future of Humankind had begun…

ACT-1: The Great Battle: Operation “Ragnarok”!

After three decades of war, the Moon is completely under Waruda control. The Daedalus Crater has been converted into an near-impenetrable fortress, equipped with an interstellar transmitter buried deep underground, designed to send Freezon energy back to receivers on the Waruda homeworld. The Waruda Daedalus fortress is protected by a virtually impregnable barrier of defenses; the numerous craters surrounding the fortress have been converted into fortified missile bases or offensive facilities, and vast docking stations, preparing for the final invasion of Earth.

With the Waruda star system’s resources driven beyond breaking point – both planet and sun now in an irreversible collapse – it was from Daedalus that the Waruda hatched a plan for a genocidal, monstrous end-game: destroy the Macrozones with a mass-driven bombardment of Earth, wiping out Humankind in one fell swoop, leaving the Waruda free to seize Earth’s Freezon to replenish their own homeworld.

Somehow warned of the threat, Diaclone Command initiated “Operation Ragnarok” and mustered the Final Attack System, a force some 50 times larger than the last human lunar assault, “Operation X”. The Final Attack System was nothing less the entire Diaclone Corps raised for the objective of taking the Waruda’s Daedalus fortress.

The Diaclone and Waruda came together in a fierce all-out battle. The Waruda held the advantage with their superior technology, using high-powered Freezon cannon barrages to wreak havoc in the Diaclone ranks.

Attempt after attempt to to breach the defensive ring around the fortress failed. However, in an act of self-sacrifice, a single brave Diaclone Power Suit unit managed to cause a small breach to open in the fortress’s barrier system, leading to a breakthrough. Seizing this opportunity, Diaclone Command rallied Earth forces and converged on the breach, bringing units to bear from all sides and concentrating fire on the Daedalus fortress. Under a massive concerted Diaclone fusillade, the fortress was destroyed, damaging the underground Freezon transfer system. This in turn caused a chain reaction that yielded a gigantic condensed-Freezon plasma ball that was transmitted back to planet Waruda along with debris from the fortress’s destruction. This ruinous accretion of mass and energy rained down on the surface of Waruda, destroying the energy receivers, cutting off the Freezon supply from Earth altogether.

A great victory for the forces of Diaclone, but a victory bought at great cost, paid against all the odds through countless sacrifice.

ACT-2: Humanity Enters Space

After the destruction of planet Waruda, peace returned to Earth and the wider galaxy.

After the battle with the Waruda, humanity were given pause to consider the power of the dual sides of Freezon; both creation and destruction, and the great responsibility that comes with its use. And now the possibility of many intelligent life forms across the universe had been confirmed, including both malicious, like the Waruda, and benevolent beings, such as those who had alerted Earth to the coming Waruda attacks. The realisation came that using the power of Freezon, it was time to evolve to better cope with unforeseeable cosmic-scale extra-terrestrial events.

The Federation Committee of the Macro Zones put together a global “think-tank”, aided by the Zone Computers, to draft the “Galactic Citizen Declaration” with the hope of a new age of humanity, deciding to promote a grand space expansion plan with the purpose of peaceful exchange and coexistence with as yet unseen brethren in the far reaches of the galaxy.

The Zone computers along with the most brilliant minds and elite scientific teams, were tasked to develop a “Freezon Drive” to enable super-fast space travel.

The Diaclone Earth Defense Force, which had saved humanity from the desperate Lunar crisis, was reorganized into planetary exploration and expeditionary activities. Machines previously used for combat were repurposed for humanity’s grand new role in the cosmos.

On the surface of the moon, a science research base, training centre, large-scale spaceport, and other facilities, including the Diaclone Space Command Base, which controls activities in the space area, were constructed, and at an altitude of 100,000 km above the earth, the construction of CX-1, a huge space station that will serve as the starting point of the solar system’s return route, began.

With mankind’s attention looking to the stars, the Diaclone were to embark upon a new era of adventure and discovery in our great universe of infinite possibilities.

By the year 203X, the completion of the Freezon drive, enabling ultra-fast space travel, has dramatically shortened the travel time between planets and experimental space colonies. Construction bases are built one after another on each suitable planet in our solar system, leading to the construction of the Giga Zone, a solar system level Zone.

In the experimental space cities of the Giga Zone, the unique environment and geological characteristics of each planet, as well as the discovery of previously unknown materials extracted from meteorites, have led to the discovery and development of new technologies that could not be realized on Earth, and the further evolution of human science.

In the midst of all this, a Diaclone patrol ship, launched from the Mars Zone, was making its routine rounds near the Asteroid Belt.

“What the hell is that?!?”

In front of the Diaclone crew’s eyes, several metallic objects, which hadn’t registered on the onboard radar, coalesced into a form several kilometers long that loomed ominously against the sun. On the surface of the object, clearly artificially built for the purpose of battle, were huge towers that appeared to be cannons, crowded together like a needle hill. One of them slowly moved and pointed in the direction of the patrol craft.

“Emergency contact! This is Patrol DF3, we’ve encountered a massive artificial structure of unknown origin! We are attempting to make contact! The location is Mars Zone, coordinates XX… XXX…

Mars Zone Chryse Plains, the fifth solar system base to be built, received the urgent transmission from the patrol boat, but it was cut off midway with a violent noise…

ACT-3: The Waruda Empire strikes back!

On the central screen of the operation room at the general command base in the Mars Zone, the data of the mysterious structure, captured by a three-dimensional fault analysis camera, barely transmitted from the patrol boat DF3’s final moments, was projected in three dimensions. As the operator focused on what appeared to be the bridge and gradually zoomed in, shadows of what appeared to be crew members gradually appeared, and finally the forms of several eerie not-quite human beings were projected.

Astonished voices echoed through the operation room.

“This is unmistakable…”

“I-it’s them, they’re back!”

The mysterious structure was a general purpose Waruda space fortress.

After the annihilation of the planet Waruda, the ruling legions, scattered across the countless colonies they had conquered, had massed and re-established themselves within an astronomically scaled artificial ring-world. For them, the collapse of their home planet was merely a matter of a broken vessel to fill with fuel. The Waruda aliens’ plan to re-invade Earth was not only to seize the abundant Freezon, but also to eventually take the Earth itself, filled as it was with the supermatter, as a “new vessel,” or a second Waruda planet.

The Waruda Corps, clearly far from defeated, was equipped with a group of powerful new battle machines and technology, newly built by combining their own battle technology with technological advancements taken from their various conquests including oceanic, metallic and rocky planets. In addition, an army of vicious space mercenaries recruited from the colonized planets, the overall combat power has been increased by an order of magnitude. In the far-off Great Dark Nebula, the Waruda Empire had planned to strike back with even greater force than before.

The Waruda Legion begun a series of attacks, starting with the Mars Zone.

Just as the Mars Zone command center was preparing for the attack of the Waruda space fortress, countless beams of fire erupted simultaneously from the needle-like cannons of the abomination, which had moved into Martian orbit, raining down such destruction as had never before been witnessed upon the Martian soil in a torrential downpour, obliterating everything in an instant. The devastation causing a gargantuan cloud of dust, enveloping the entire zone in a thick red fog.

From within the dust storm, blue beams, akin to randomly moving searchlights, were seen, along with the eerie sound of footsteps echoing, as a huge group of battle machines finally revealed themselves. It was the Waruda’s Martian Legion. High above the dust clouds, the Waruda saucer-shaped battle ships hung over the Mars Zone like the sword of Damocles, controlling the invading land-based forces.

“Diaclone Squadron, all units, make an emergency sortie! Emergency!! Repeat EMERGENCY!”

The entire Mars Zone was in an elevated combat level, and the general command base ordered all units to scramble!

Those Diaclone mecha that managed to avoid the initial aerial bombardment scrambled. However, most of the machines had been disarmed disarmed and were equipped with only space development equipment such as asteroid-mining bombs and excavation arm units, so the difference in combat power was obvious. Moreover, the Waruda machines had an overwhelming destructive level of firepower that could easily penetrate the armor of the Diaclone mecha. This was an unknown technology, hitherto unencountered in the data of past Waruda weaponry.

The Mars Zone, the largest of the non-terrestrial Zones, was utterly destroyed in just a few hours.

ACT4: LandMaster Crisis!

The news of the returning Waruda invasion fleet and the destruction of the Mars Zone shook the Zones to their very core.

The observation team at CX-1, the space station floating in orbit 100,000 km above the Earth, captured a horrifying image of a Waruda Space Fortress that appeared above the Earth from a subspace portal. Directly below it was the MetraZone Tokyo City. It was clear that the next target of Waruda’s army would be the central electronic brain that controlled the entire Macro Zone, the LandMaster.

A loud siren sounded in Tokyo City. Signal 11, the maximum alert level in Zone City, had been issued.

The gravity field deflector shields were instantly deployed on the outer walls of the main facilities, and all transportation was stopped as the people hurried to evacuate to the bomb shelters.

“The Waruda Legion is approaching! All troops, battle positions, now!”

In the center of the city, around the Landmaster storage dome, the mecha of the Diaclone Capital Defense Force gathered to help evacuate the citizens and prepare for the interception of Waruda while keeping a nervous eye on the sky above.

Suddenly, with a tremendous flash of light, a rain of beams hit the center of Tokyo City with the impact of many bombs. The Waruda campaign to destroy the LandMaster had begun. The space fortress revealed its eerie appearance through gaps in the cumulus clouds above the city, and continued its relentless beam bombardment from the countless radiating turrets that covered the ship.

The Landmaster Dome shifted to its defense mode and descended to an evacuation area 1,000 meters underground. It was replaced by huge combat vehicles which appeared on the ground, one after another; they were the trump card for the defense of the capital, a dozen Great Robot Bases! In the midst of the heavy bombardment from above, the Great Robot Bases shook the earth as they transformed from their tank to their battle modes, with huge cannons aimed to the sky.

“Defend the Landmaster!”

The continuous barrage of the Tokyo super-dreadnought cannons, which are said to have the power to destroy mountains with a single blast, gradually eradicated the armaments of the Waruda space fortress and finally broke the bombing attack. Seeing this as an opportunity to win, the Diaclone Capital Defense Force shifted all of its machines into battle mode and began an all-out assault to destroy the silenced Waruda Space Fortress.

However, the silence was merely a ploy by the Waruda Legion who were simply allowing the defenders a false sense of security before a cunning trap was sprung…

Gates at the bottom of the space fortress spiraled open as if they were waiting for the Diaclone team’s assault, and the Waruda battle machines began to descend towards the ground at once. The Waruda attackers shot down the Diaclone mecha that came within range with their new armaments, and then moved on to attack the Robot Base Battalion, feared to be the strongest of the Diaclones.

However, the Robot Base units, whose energy had been depleted by the prolonged firing of the Freezon Beam Cannons, was little threat to the swarming Waruda attack force. They responded to the relentless blaster wave attacks of the Waruda machines with Freezon missiles and Mazer cannons, but their huge bodies were gradually being destroyed.

Finally, the Waruda machines reached the center of Tokyo City and surrounded the evacuation gate of the Landmaster Dome, destroying its defensive wall. The blaster light waves quickly melted down the defensive wall, leaving Landmaster and the entire Macrozone in a desperate Situation!

Suddenly a mysterious battle machine swooped down from the sky at tremendous speed in a sweeping attack. The steel-winged machine raised its nose just as it was about to touch the ground, blasting away the wreckage of the Waruda machines as it soared in a wide arc.

In the sky above, a group of the mysterious fighting machines and the Waruda’s saucer-shaped fighting boat were engaged in an aerial dog-fight, and on the ground, a group of fighting machines that had transformed into humanoid and odd-shaped fighting forms were fighting Waruda machines.

These new machines, with their strong armor that repelled blaster light waves and powerful weapons that could destroy the enemy with a single blow, defeated the Waruda machines one after another, wiping out the Waruda attack force in the blink of an eye.

The war situation changed drastically, and in preparation for the second wave of Waruda’s attack, the division of the mysterious fighting machines transformed into flight form one after another, and formed a V formation to attack the space fortress in the sky. But the Waruda space fortress didn’t fight back, instead it slowly began to ascend, and near the stratosphere it engaged a subspace drive and disappeared into thin air.

The crisis in Tokyo City is over.

After the signal 11 was ended and the lift-up to the ground was completed, the Landmaster intercepted an interstellar transmission towards the Great Dark Nebula as the fortress was retreating.

That huge space fortress is only a sentinel to test Earth’s defence potential, and the bulk of its main force remain in the Great Dark Nebula, waiting for an as-yet unknown time to once again bring an onslaught to our own galaxy!

ACT5: Activate Neo Attack System

The mysterious battle machine division that defended Tokyo City from the threat of the Waruda Legion was an elite team from the Lunar Command Base, piloting experimental prototypes of the most advanced machine in the Battles series, the Diabattles V2.

DA-01EX Dia-Battles Lunar Base Prototype

At a scientific research base in the Selenium Zone on the moon, this new type of defense machine was being secretly developed and built to protect against unknown threats in the event of a major galactic expansion. The machine incorporated many new technologies that had been perfected at the GigaZone research facility outside of Earth, such as an ultra-compact Freezon generator dozens of times more power than conventional generators, and special armor coated with a super-hard material called Diacrom. These latest technologies had unexpectedly proven to be more than capable of competing with the powered-up Waruda Corps.

In all Zones of the Earth and the solar system, the development of a variety of state-of-the-art combat machines was being carried out at a rapid pace based on the actual battle data from the Dia Battles V2 prototype.

With the return of the Waruda armies, humanity was once again forced to become involved in endless warfare with the invading aliens.

In order to prevent a repeat of the Mars Zone disaster, the Diaclone Corps and the Macrozone Federal Committee have taken all possible defensive measures to prepare for the new battle to come.

In the event that an unidentified object enters the zone, information on its location and strength is instantly transmitted to all zone computers, and optimized countermeasures are quickly calculated.

The Diaclone Central Command has deployed large scale combat satellite bases in the intermediate space between all planets in the Sol system in order to be able to quickly intercept the Waruda incursion that appears within the zone. In addition, a multi-layered defense network has been constructed for each planet, with cruise type carrier bases protecting the space, air, and surface areas, and interceptor machines always on standby to scramble in case of a Waruda surprise attack.

With the fate of humanity, the Earth, and the universe at stake, the Neo Attack System, a cosmic defense system covering the macrozone of the Earth and the gigazone of the solar system, has finally been activated!

We are ready to repel the Waruda army! Fight! Fight! Our Diaclone!
